Day 1: Bangkok- River Kwai (-/L/-)
Early this morning, drive south from Bangkok to the garden province of Samut Songkhram (80 km) in the Mae Klong River delta area. Visit a unique country market along the railway tracks where a variety of goods are sold and the train travels through, bringing people to the market. Then drive further to Kanchanaburi where you will find the famous bridge on the River Kwai, built by Allied prisoners of war during World War II. Visit the war cemetery, the JEATH War Museum, and the Railway Museum.
After lunch at a local restaurant, take a short train ride along the infamous ‘death railway’ through Kwai Noi Gorge. Visit an elephant camp where you can experience an elephant ride through the jungle and alongside the Kwai Yai River. Afterward, travel by bamboo raft along the river’s gently flowing waters before heading to your hotel.
Overnight in Kanchanaburi.
Day 2: River Kwai - Bangkok (B/L/-)
After breakfast, take a one-hour drive (80 km) to the northwestern part of the city. Visit the Hellfire Pass Museum before embarking on a trek through the nearby canyon. The walk is along the Memorial Walking Trail looking out onto Myanmar. A free audio guide is provided to help create the scene and to link the context and location with real-life experiences narrated by POWs while working on the line.
Depart for Sai Yok Yai Waterfall, which is famous for its idyllic beauty, once visited by King Rama V. The falls flow from cliffs into the Kwai Noi River. Have lunch on the raft restaurant with the waterfall view.
Depart from Kanchanaburi, drive back to Bangkok or your next destination.
